Access Control Systems for Business

How an Access Control System can work for you

Access control simply enables you to control who has access to your building, or specific areas of your site. Traditional locks and keys also allow you to control access and secure your building.

However, keys are easily lost, stolen or copied, which can be expensive if locks need changing and keys replacing.

Uses of Access Control

As well as controlling access to a building, an access control system also has other uses and benefits.

Keeping track of employees

You can monitor timekeeping, attendance and location of employees whilst on-site.

Secure sensitive areas

Internal door access control can be set to only allow designated employees into specific areas of the building.

Occupancy Management

This can be used to ensure any maximum occupancy levels aren’t exceeded. It really comes into its own though in the event of an emergency. You, and any attending emergency services, will know exactly how many people are on-site at any time to assist with emergency evacuations.

No more worrying about keys

When an employee leaves the business, there’s no need to worry about them returning building keys. Their access rights can simply be revoked on the access control system.

Why do I need an Access Control system?

All businesses have to protect assets and a duty to protect employees. Buildings using locks and keys for security often leave their doors unlocked all day. This can result in opportunist theft and malicious damage.

Installing an access control system means that you will never have to change a lock, or replace a key again. Proximity tags are issued to employees to allow access through controlled doors. If the tag is lost or stolen, it can be quickly and easily removed from the system to disallow access rights.

How does Access Control work?

Once an access control system is installed, all doors controlled by the system will automatically lock when the door is closed. Anyone who doesn’t have a PIN or proximity tag is unable to open the controlled door. For ease of access, doors can also be set to unlock during a designated hours when stringent security isn’t required.

Access control also offers flexible control over individual access rights. For example, your system may be set so that all staff can gain access through the main entrance door of a building. However, internal doors may be restricted to just a few employees who require access. Access may also be restricted by time, only granting access to particular users at certain times of day or night. This ensures that employees are only allowed access to site during working hours and not when off duty.
